Summary of Social Housing Assessments 2016

This Assessment counts the total number of households qualified for social housing support,  to inform policy and plan for the right types of housing support.  It brings together information provided by local authorities about the numbers of households assessed as qualified for housing support on a prescribed date – 21st September 2016.  The report provides a breakdown of the data by set criteria – local authority, age, household composition, current tenure, basis of need, accommodation requirements, length of time on the list, etc.

Housing for Older People - Thinking Ahead

This research was commissioned by the Housing Agency and Ireland Smart Ageing Exchange (ISAX).  The report reviews the housing needs of an ageing population.  Specifically it  examines the current and future housing requirements and aspirations of Ireland's older citizens, it identifies what policy structures are required to meet these needs, and what are the likely policy implementation blockages and how might these be overcome.

Design for Mental Health - Housing Design Guidelines

This report was jointly commissioned by the Housing Agency and the Health Services Executive. These housing design guidelines assist those living with persistent mental health conditions. This is the first time any such design guidelines targeting this cohort of the population have been produced anywhere in the world. The Housing Agency and the HSE have drawn together best practice in home design for people living with enduring and life altering mental health conditions into design guidelines to help facilitate independent living.

Family Experiences of Pathways into Homelessness: The Families’ Perspective

This report was commissioned by the Housing Agency and conducted by independent researchers.  The purpose of this research was to identify why families had recently become homeless in Dublin – from their own perspective, and involved interviews with 30 homeless families.

Estimate of New Property Requirement for Social Housing

During the preparation of the Social Housing Strategy 2020, the Housing Agency was requested by the Department of Environment, Community and Local Government to provide an analysis and an estimate of the requirements for additional residential properties to meet the needs of those households qualified for social housing support. The requirement figure of approximately 35,000 was estimated based on the returns by local housing authorities reported in the 2013 Assessment of Social Housing Needs and a number of assumptions.

Why Travellers Leave Traveller-specific Accommodation

This research report was commissioned by the Housing Agency for the National Traveller Accommodation Consultative Committee (NTACC).  It focuses on the reasons why Travellers leave Traveller-specific accommodation and possible approaches to addressing the issues arising. The research involved a survey for local authorities (to get an overview of the extent and nature of the problem nationally), case studies from three areas and consultations with National Traveller groups. The research includes recommendations and guidelines to enhance practice at a local level.
