Cork County Council

Local authorities (otherwise known as city or county council’s) in Ireland are responsible for the provision of public services and facilities such as housing, planning, roads, environmental protection, fire services etc.

They are the main providers of social housing support for people who cannot afford their own accommodation. Social housing support includes local authority housing and the Housing Assistance Payment (HAP). You must make an application to the local authority if you wish to receive social housing supports.

If you are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless, you should contact your local authority who will conduct an initial assessment and provide information on supports available to assist you dependent on your current situation. These supports may include access to social housing supports such as homeless HAP and the Place Finder service or emergency accommodation if required.
