The Housing Agency welcomes the publication of a White Paper to End Direct Provision and to Establish a New International Protection Support Service.
Responding to the White Paper, Chief Executive Officer of The Housing Agency John O’Connor said: “I welcome the ending of Direct Provision, and the creation of a new system based on a not-for-profit approach, grounded in the principles of human rights, respect for diversity and respect for privacy and family life.
“The Housing Agency’s vision is to promote the building of sustainable communities. We look forward to working closely with the Department of Children, Equality, Disability, Integration and Youth, Approved Housing Bodies and other non-for-profit housing organisations, and fellow stakeholders to ensure that people who come to Ireland to seek protection have sustainable and welcoming communities in which they can reside.
“As set out in the White Paper, the new structure of accommodation and supports ensures that people who are applying for protection are helped integrate into Ireland from day one, with health, housing, education, and employment supports at the core of the system.
“Focusing on supporting integration from day one is critical.”
