Advise on Housing Policy and Legislation
One of the main functions of the Housing Agency is to support:
-
local authorities
-
approved housing bodies
-
the Department of Housing, Planning, Community and Local Government
in applying housing policy and to provide guidance on new legislative provisions and issues that arise.
One of our key priorities is to support the implementation of the 2009 Housing Act. We provide guidance to local authorities on the following areas:
-
Eligibility for social housing
-
Assessment of housing need
-
Access to housing supports
-
The allocation of social housing
-
Other key housing management issues, such as: rents policy; options for home purchase.
As part of this work, we are in a key position to identify emerging issues and can coordinate solutions to ensure effective implementation of policy.
We also provide assistance to the Department of Housing, Planning, Community and Local Government in developing policy and legislation to support the sector to deliver housing solutions.
